Star Trek Bridge

June 2008 – Water of Life Community Church: Vidouncements

One of the most creative jobs I have had was producing video announcements for my church. I called these weekly sketches Vidouncements, and had fun dreaming up creative ways to tie five separate messages into one five minute story. We had been producng Vidouncements for a few months and our turn around time and script process were refined enough to try something big!

I worked hard to have all the announcement information well in advance and generated a script with a Star Trek twist. One of our local actors offered his tv room for our set construction site.

I built the entire back of the set and two roaming walls since the shoot would only have one camera and the walls could be reconfigured into each shot. The rooms large television became the view screen.
Every part of the set was covered in large sheets of black construction paper. The color was seamless enough to hold up on camera yet cheaper and easier than paint. I rarely paint my cardboard projects.
After dressing up the set with more paper and buttons all of the actors were placed in red, blue and gold shirts. Everyone had a great time including the Klingons.
After I was sure every shot was secure it was time to strike the set, always a fun task with cardboard.
